And another stellar performance! Set list for Phoenix: Masquerade I'm looking forward to Paul's chronicles... |

Well, I'm still waiting for Paul' chronicles.... So I leave Yuma for the 3 hour drive to Phoenix. It's not a bad drive. Eric is totally right, some parts of Phoenix are kind of scuzzy. Anyway, we get into Phx at about 2pm and have a few hours to kill. So we drive by the venue and then check into our room. It seems a little warm in the room, but I figure the ac takes a while to cool the room off. We get all relaxed and dress up and then we head downtown to Alice Coopers'town for dinner. ScottO, Martin, his friend Louis, Ron, and Paul K fill our our party. The Razor girls are a nice addition. Anyway, the food was great. I was truly surprised. Happy Birthday to Scotto. (hint to all message board people) to be continued...... |

So anyway, we end up the the venue, and it's just a little early. And the club has $2 bottles until 7. Evidently the club is under new ownership and they're trying to get rid of the Heinekin. I'm very willing to help out. Now the lobby lights start flashing. Or is it just me? Anyway, I make my way to the bar for a coupla drinks to go, and I head into the theater. Oh, yeah, theatre in the round. No corners. Anyway, I run into a very nice usher who asks what my seat is. I jesture to my full hands and then to my breast pocket. She gets the hint and shows me to my seat. And the GodfatherLV is waiting for me. Damn, this is going to be fun. I'm a little late to see Missing Persons take the stage, but I sit down in time for the first song. And it's exactly as I think it will be. Dale is a little older, a little wider, and a little more traveled. The lighting seems harsh. But I am comparing everything to what I've seen of Terri, and that's not fair..... |

Anyway, Dale is quite the performer. She does what I expect to hear, ie. Walking in LA, Destination Unknown, and What are Words For?. She also does the filler stuff. She's OK. Better than OK...It's exactly what I expected. I'm not disappointed. I'm not over-joyed. Dale still hits the high notes with the squeak. ho-hum. Here comes a drum solo. The drummer proves himself to be the highpoint of the show, so far. Well, this sucks for Dale - the drummer is still the high point of the show, and he's not even Teri Bozzio. hmmm... Did I mention how Dale is always playing air guitar? really annoying, really distracting, really boring. zzzzzz...... Alrighty, a break. Ahhh, The Motels!!!! |

ahhh... Martha Davis... Well, I'm a little surprised at the wardrobe. Martha is in all black - jeans, jacket, blouse - buttoned up high. I challenge anybody to find ANYTHING sexy or even appealing about Martha's appearance. Black hair and dark eyes. Every bit as appealing as Johnny Cash. But it's about the music right? Not the appearance? Even I previously posted...It's about the talent. And Martha ROCKED OUR ASSES OFF! Martha was un-friggin-believable!!!! Martha played songs I'd never heard before...and they weren't just good - they were AWESOME!!!! The vocal delivery was great...the material was outstanding...the whole performance was absolutely wonderful!!! The band was tight, and OH! if you've ever made eye contact with Martha...lasers just burned into your soul!... After a 45 minute set, the Motels closed with the songs you expected to hear, "Suddenly Last Summer", and "Only the Lonely". They were awesome, and "what I expected", but after the other brilliantly played material, almost anti-climactic. But don't take that bad - it was still a great show. |

during break, the house introduces the new owner of the club. He seems like a nice-enough guy. They auction off a guitar signed by the three "gals". This little pink "red haired bastard son" of a guitar fetches $2000 for Childrens Hospital, I think it was. Good Show!!!! and here comes the 2001 music. Isn't that a bit passe' by now? Maybe, or maybe not, but it still works!!!! The band takes the stage and tears into "Masquerade". And the house goes F***'in' nuts!!!! I've already posted the set list, so I won't trouble myself to re-type it. But the highlights for me? They would be: The premiere of "Blink of an Eye". OMG, this song is flippin' awesome. I've enjoyed the privelege of hearing a different version, by Mitchell's band Serotonin. (with Linda on vocals). This song rocks! It will be a true asset to the new album. I'm sure Mitchell is glad to have "his baby" enjoy such popularity, but I can't help but wonder if Mitchell and Linda fell like they are "losing their baby to the world". This was also the 2nd performance of "Shiny". A song that Terri says describes her "first rave". Man, I wish I could have been there for that "de-flowering". hehe! And I will again mention how I absolutely love "Dancing in Berlin". Fun to watch Paul K rocking out to "Drug" and "Lost my Mind". Absolutely brilliant performance. A totally bitchin' acoustic performance of "Pleasure Victim". Eat your heart out, Josef! The show ended with Sex, and encored with a little Depeche Mode. Never let me Down. I love that song..."...I'm taking a ride with my best friend...". I wonder if Terri knows how that one line is stuck in my noodle... I can tell you, in all honesty, that I never once (during the show) thought about how this set compared to any other set. At the gig, no other show ever crossed my mind. I was so totally in to "the moment" that nothing else mattered. The music was my drug. The tequila didn't hurt. In closing, I will say "Happy Anniversary" to Terri. I'm sorry that Paul couldn't be there with you. Thank you to Martin. We were fortunate enough to be invited back stage after the show. Again, there is just no way to express how gracious the band members are. Even with an impossible schedule, I was able to thank Terri and the other band members. Dallan was just so sweet. Chris is so nice. Mitchell is just wonderful. And Linda is like a sister to everybody that meets her. Thank you to everybody!!!!
